Doodling for Relaxation - New Video Tutorial

During the early months of the pandemic, I was working at a public library. We made countless hours of video content to share with patrons when we were closed to the public. I created a drawing/doodling tutorial during that time, as part of a self-care series. I’ve always found doodling to be terribly relaxing. The simple act of moving my hand around the page can put me into an almost meditative state. It seemed like a great time to share a few of my favorite doodles on camera.
In this short video tutorial, I share two very simple line drawing techniques that I picked up while I was teaching art. Both were taught to beginning high school art students as a way to teach what we called “line control.” Just like any skill, with practice you have more control over the marks you make. Most of my students found these two exercises fun and satisfying.
Both doodles can be made with any drawing utensil you choose. In the video and samples I made after the fact, I used a mechanical pencil, so I didn’t have to stop and sharpen a pencil during the process. I also used Papermate Flair Pens and a Pilot G-2. You can write more after the link.
